What's on your mind about education?

While education has been disrupted due to technological advancement, teachers at this university have an essential role to nurture future leaders working together in the spirit of innovation and enterprise. Therefore, teachers in the classroom should encourage students from studying to learning, embedding lifelong learning as the UNEJ DNA to ensure in creating knowledge and value.

Short Profile

Muhammad Bahrul Ulum, S.H., LL.M. is a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Jember, Indonesia. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Jember (Indonesia) and LL.M. International Economic Law from Osmania University (India) under the scholarship scheme from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

Currently, he holds editorial positions at the Indonesian Journal of Law and Society, Lentera Hukum, and Jurnal Kajian Pembaruan Hukum. In 2021, he organized the “Symposium on Constitutionalism and Public Law: Global South Perspectives” with the participation of presenters from 17 countries.

In the same year, he has been appointed as the chair of the students’ achievements program through the improvement of students’ engagement to both national and international events, including writing, debate, and moot competitions, conferences, and journal publications. He initiated the first-ever international moot court club at UNEJ Law for improving students' presence in various international law moot court competitions at the international level.

Expertise

Muhammad received a research grant from the Islamic Development Bank to hold a visiting scholar at Nagoya University from October to December 2018 and the UNEJ grant to conduct research at Airlangga University from November to December 2019. He also joined the 43rd Southeast Asia Seminar held by Kyoto University in Hanoi, Vietnam from 7 to 13 November 2019. His research focuses on human rights and constitutionalism, regional law, and food security law. He published his selected articles in the Web of Science and Scopus-indexed journals, such as Indonesia Law Review, Jurnal Cita Hukum, Constitutional Review, and UUM Journal of Legal Studies.
